Mark Lynn and Steven Main founded Shackleton Credit in 2002 in the nascent distressed debt investment industry in South Africa. The South African distressed debt investment industry was in its infancy but has subsequently (pioneered to a large degree by Shackleton Credit and its founders) developed into a sophisticated market of most high street banks selling accounts on a regular basis to Shackleton Credit and the rest of the market.
The proprietary behavioural insights, statistical models and market understanding developed by Shackleton Credit over the past 20 years give it a significant competitive advantage and enables it to accurately value books and recover them at good levels of returns.
Shackleton Credit is now one of the largest buyers of distressed debt in the country and employs over 300 people.
